Yousef Saqr Abu Rabie was a 24-year-old farmer from Beit Lahia, in northern Gaza. He had to move to Jabalia, a little to the south, in the first months of the war.

When Israeli troops evacuated Beit Lahia in March 2024, he returned. He found everything destroyed, houses and crops. He began collecting all the spoiled crops he could from the destroyed fields. He did this at night to avoid Israeli fire.

He began planting seeds among the destroyed houses and on the roofs of homes.

With the help of photographer Leena, he created the Gaza agricultural aid group @Thamra. Many farmers helped distribute the seeds to people in northern Gaza so they could plant them among the rubble near their homes.

In October, Israel once again focused its brutality on northern Gaza. All agricultural land was bulldozed. The farmers' group became a priority target for destruction.

On October 21, 2024, Yousef was killed by an Israeli drone, along with his associate Zacharias, in Beit Lahia. The Thamra organization he helped form continues to operate, although it has been relocated to southern Gaza.
