Ayat Omar Khadoura was born in 1996 in Beit Lahia, north of Gaza City; she was 27 years old; she earned a bachelor’s degree in Digital Media from Al-Quds Open University, based in Amman, Jordan, at its Gaza campus.

She lived with her family—parents, grandparents, three sisters, and two brothers—in Beit Lahia. She began her career as a journalist in local media and worked as a presenter; she produced podcasts that were widely followed online.

In 2022, on May 11, Ayat had covered the killing of Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Alekh by the Israeli army in Jenin, West Bank, and on August 9, the martyrdom of Ibrahim Al Nabulsi, a Palestinian resistance fighter and commander of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigade, in Nablus, West Bank, which went viral.

She also focused on traditional Palestinian culture, cuisine, and history; her videos also covered social issues, showcasing the inspiring stories of successful Gazan women.

From Beit Lahia, Ayat reported to the world on Israel’s massive bombings, the use of prohibited weapons—white phosphorus and thermobaric bombs—the siege, the destruction of homes, and the loss of loved ones. She had over 200,000 followers on Instagram: @ayat.omar.khadoura

In one of her last videos, which went viral, she says, “We had big dreams, and now our dream is to die in one piece so that we will be recognized.” She was killed on November 20, 2023, in the bombing of her home, along with her grandmother, two brothers, and a sister. They were unable to bury her body because it had been torn to pieces by the explosion.
