Fatima Hassona was a 25-year-old Palestinian photographer and documentary filmmaker living in Gaza City.
She lived in Gaza City, in the Al Touffah neighborhood, east of the city, on the second floor of a five-story building. She had eight siblings; her father was a taxi driver.
Fatima studied multimedia at the Gaza University College of Applied Sciences. Her work as a photographer was soon recognized in the local media and also on the American platform Mondoweiss. Her Instagram account: @fatma_hassona2.
Starting in October 2023, she documented the bombings, forced evacuations, the resilience of Gazans, children playing in the ruins, helping people in any way she could, even organizing writing workshops for children at a school for refugee families.
She collaborated remotely with Iranian filmmaker Sepideh Farsi, exiled in France. Together, they made the documentary "Put Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk" (2025). This documentary was selected for screening at the ACID Film Festival, held in parallel with the Cannes Film Festival.
On April 16, 2025, one day after she was informed of the selection of her documentary, and while she was preparing for her wedding to her boyfriend, to whom she had become engaged three months earlier, the Israeli occupation army bombed her home, and she was murdered along with 10 members of her family, including a pregnant sister and five other brothers. Her crime was chronicling the genocide through articles, photographs, and documentaries.
