Mohammad Bhar was the youngest of the Bhar couple's nine children. He was born with Down syndrome and lived in eastern Gaza City. His father was killed by Israel when he was two years old. In July 2024, he was 24 years old, but his mental age was six.
He was the blessing of the house; everyone loved him. He was afraid to leave the house, but he was very affectionate. He had a favorite sofa where he almost always sat.
On July 4th, Israeli soldiers stormed the building where they were staying with attack dogs.
One of the dogs lunged at Mohammad, who was sitting on his sofa, biting his chest and back. His mother asked the soldiers for help to remove the dog. Mohammad kept telling the dog, "Stay quiet, dear."
The soldiers beat and arrested Mohammad's two brothers, locked Mohammad in a room, and forced his mother and the rest of the family to leave the house.
A week later, when the soldiers left the area and part of the family was able to return home, they found Mohammad's body in the room where he had been locked, decomposing, in a huge pool of blood.
