Ibrahim Quishtah and his wife, Aziza, were 70 years old: they had already celebrated 50 years of marriage. Ibrahim was blind and could not walk without assistance.
They lived in Khirbet Al Adas, north of Rafah; they had four sons and nine daughters.
When Israel re-invaded Rafah in March 2025, it issued evacuation orders for the Al Mawasi area and Khan Younis. Ibrahim's children had to be displaced, but Ibrahim, who was blind and sick, could not walk; Aziza decided to stay with him.
They survived for two months, surrounded by the army. Their house was bombed; a piece of shrapnel wounded Ibrahim in the neck. Aziza tried to treat him, but the wound continued to bleed. He died on May 10, 2025.
Aziza found a hole in the garden next to an olive tree and enlarged it herself to bury Ibrahim. She wrapped him in a curtain and plastic and covered him with zinc sheeting, wood, and earth.
Isolation and lack of food forced Aziza to try to reach the Israeli army with a white cloth. After interrogating her, they told her to leave Rafah. After hours of walking without knowing where she was, she was found by the Gaza Civil Aid, who took her to Al Amal Hospital in Khan Younis.
