Mohammed Al Bardawill was a 12-year-old boy living in Tel Al Sultan, a refugee camp in southern Gaza, west of Rafah. His father was Dr. Saeed Al Bardawill, 55.
On March 23, 2025, at 4:45 a.m., while going fishing in the Al Mawasi area, they were stopped by Israeli soldiers. The soldiers had attacked an ambulance, killed two of the first aid workers, and detained one of them. After tying the two up, they ordered them to lie on the ground.
When the four ambulances, the fire engine, and a United Nations vehicle arrived, the soldiers attacked them, shooting and killing most of the nurses and first aid workers. Mohammed's father only heard the gunshots because he had been blindfolded, but Mohammed could see the attack. He had not been blindfolded due to his young age, and he told his father what was happening.
On the afternoon of March 23, the soldiers used the prisoners as human shields and forced them to transmit evacuation orders to the civilians of Tal Al Sultan, with the aim of destroying it later. Mohammed and his father were eventually released.
They gave an interview to the New York Times. Mohammed's account coincided with the video found by Refaat Radwan. They agreed to interview him again, but a few days later, he was murdered.
On May 10, 2025, while they were fishing in the Al Mawasi area, an Israeli naval boat approached. They tried to flee but were attacked, first firing artillery shells, and then firing a single shot that hit Mohammed. His father took him, wounded, to a Red Cross hospital, where he died.
