Dr. Adnan Al-Bursh, a 50-year-old surgeon from Gaza, head of the orthopedic surgery department at Al-Shifa Hospital.
He worked tirelessly at the hospital since the beginning of the Israeli attacks on Gaza. He even slept in the hospital.
In November 2020, Al-Shifa Hospital was surrounded by the Israeli army, forcing the evacuation of the hospital and subsequently destroying it.
Dr. Adnan was ordered to go south, but instead, he went north to the Indonesian Hospital to assist with surgery. The Indonesian Hospital was also attacked. In December, he went to work at Al-Awda Hospital.
The Israeli army threatened to destroy the hospital if all male staff did not leave. Dr. Adnan was arrested along with 10 other paramedics. He was taken to the Sde Teiman concentration and torture camp.
According to testimony from other detainees, Dr. Adnan was brutally beaten upon his arrival at the center in December. In April, he was transferred to Ofer prison, near Jerusalem. According to testimony from other prisoners, they saw him naked from the bottom of his body and lying in the courtyard. They helped him carry him to his room, and he died shortly afterward. The Israeli authorities did not release his body to his family.
