Refaat Rawdan was a 24-year-old Palestinian young man known for his kindness to the elderly and his willingness to help. He was a volunteer with the Red Crescent rescue teams in Rafah, southern Gaza.
On March 23, 2025, the Israeli occupation army relentlessly bombed and launched ground attacks in various parts of Gaza, including the Tel al-Sultan refugee camp, west of Rafah, causing multiple deaths and injuries.
The Red Moon sent an ambulance. Since the number of injured was so high, they sent another ambulance, and later a convoy of four ambulances and a fire engine. It was 4 a.m., and Rafaat was in the last ambulance in the convoy, filming with his cell phone.
On the way, they found the ambulance that had left earlier on the side of the road and the bodies of its two occupants beside it. They went out to help them, but the occupation soldiers were waiting in ambush.
The soldiers shot at point-blank range, executing the six paramedics in the convoy and six Civil Defense workers. Rafaat was one of the last to die; his cell phone was recording until his death. These were his last words, along with repeated prayers to God: "Forgive me, Mother. This is the path I chose to help people."
More Israeli tanks and bulldozers converged on the area, crushed the ambulances along with the bodies of the rescuers, dug graves, and buried everything in them. The Israeli army did not allow access to the area for three days. The bodies of the rescuers, along with the buried vehicles, were discovered six days later.
