Yaqeen Hammad was an 11-year-old girl from Gaza. She was very active in helping others. She frequently used social media to document her work. She was known worldwide for her positive outlook on Gaza, despite the catastrophe. Her Instagram account: @yaqeen_hmad.
She was the youngest of five siblings. She lived with her family in the Al Baraka neighborhood of Deir Al Balah, a city in the central Gaza Strip.
Yaqeen was very close to her older brother Mohammed Hammad, a humanitarian worker, whom she often accompanied on his aid missions. They were active members of the local Ouena collective, an NGO that supports humanitarian and mutual aid efforts.
In her posts, she shows how they distribute food and water, supporting her community and children in every way possible. Through her cheerful and enthusiastic videos, she conveyed courage, joy, and hope, reaching the hearts of many online.
One of the programs of the NGO Ouena was to promote reading and learning the Quran. As Yaqeen recounted in her publications: “We still cling firmly to the Quran and education despite hunger, siege, and genocide, with empty stomachs and hearts full of faith.”
Yaqeen was killed when Israel bombed her building on May 23, 2025. Her martyrdom caused great shock and grief, with numerous messages of condolence and recognition of her work and spirit.
