Khaled Nabhan was a good and beloved 54-year-old man from Gaza, living in Beit Hanoun, Central Gaza.
Israeli bombings killed several members of his family, including two of his grandchildren, in early 2024. The image of Khaled hugging his dead granddaughter Reem while saying, "Soul of my soul," traveled around the world on social media and has been one of the most drawn images of the genocide.
He had to move several times, once to Rafah. He was endowed with a deep religious sentiment; he is an example of Islamic "patience," something that allows one to survive in the most difficult moments.
In the midst of misfortune, he provided peace and love to those who suffered. He helped everyone, distributed the aid that reached him, and played with the children.
This aid included the animals he protected and fed.
His death on December 16, 2024, from missiles fired by Israel at Nuseirat, was mourned around the world. His example of humanity was a consolation to those of us who believed that humanity had been lost in the world.
