Ziad Mohammed al-Dalou, a nurse and doctor at Al Shifa Hospital in Gaza, was arrested along with dozens of healthcare workers in March 2024 and killed in Israeli prisons.

He was born in 1959 in the Al Shujaiya neighborhood of Gaza City; his father was a doctor at Al Shifa Hospital.

Ziad studied nursing and later earned a doctorate (PhD). He served as head of the Men’s Internal Medicine Department until his retirement. He was very fond of sports and excelled in gymnastics, soccer, and table tennis.

At the start of the genocide, his home was demolished, and he lost one of his sons. While displaced, he cared for his ailing mother and two of his sisters. The Al Shifa Medical Complex was blockaded by the occupying army from October 27 to November 24, 2023.

During his last displacement, Dr. Ziad returned to work at Al Shifa Hospital. On March 18, 2024, during the month of Ramadan, during the second siege of the hospital, the occupying army detained the medical staff—including Dr. Ziad, two of his sons, and other doctors—and took them to an unknown location.

His whereabouts remained unknown for six months. After requesting information through various channels, it was reported that he had died on Thursday, March 21, 2024, after being tortured in Israeli detention centers. His body was never returned.
