1- Hussein Abdel Suleiman Mohaisen, 46, was married and had two sons: Mohammed, 12, and Muayyad. He was the director of Ambulance and Emergency Services in northern Gaza.
2- He lived in Gaza City, and with the evacuation orders and Israel’s massive bombings, his family had to flee south, but he remained in Gaza, doing his job to rescue the daily throngs of victims of Israel’s massive bombings. They were separated for more than 15 months.
3- He was well-known and beloved in Gaza; he had taken part in many rescue operations, working tirelessly. One such operation took place on June 22, 2024, when Israel bombed residential buildings in Al Shati and the Al Tuffah neighborhood in Gaza City, massacring more than 42 people. Hussein rushed to rescue the wounded in the Al Tuffah neighborhood—entire families trapped under the rubble—while the street was filled with dust and gray smoke,
4- Another rescue took place on May 26, 2025, during Israel’s bombing of the Fahmi Al Jarjawi School in the Al Daraj neighborhood of Gaza City. Three strikes killed approximately 33 people, who were burned and torn apart, including 18 children and 6 women. Hussein rescued 5-year-old Hanina Al Wadie, who suffered severe burns to her arms and lost both her parents and a sister. He also rescued 6-year-old Ward Al Sheik Khalil, who lost her mother and four siblings: Abd al-Rahman, 17; Muhammed, 14; Maria, 13; and Silwan, 11. Her father and a 16-year-old brother, Iyad, survived but were injured.
5- Hussein’s murder occurred on the night of June 9, 2025, at 11:00 p.m., when they went to rescue victims of an Israeli airstrike on Yafa Street in the Al Tuffah neighborhood of Gaza City. He arrived in the ambulance with his colleagues: Wael Al Attar, 38, a paramedic; Bara Afaneh, 18, a volunteer paramedic; and Moamen Alou Al Ouf, a 19-year-old freelance photojournalist, who was accompanying them to document the rescue efforts.
6- They were deliberately shot and killed there by an Israeli tank, using the “double strike” tactic that Israel routinely employs to also kill rescue teams rushing to aid victims. Bara Faris Afaneh was the son of Fares Afaneh, director of Emergency Medical Services in northern Gaza. The funerals, attended by their colleagues and families, went viral at the Sheikh Radwan Health Martyrs Center.
