Shaban Al Dalou was 19 years old, the oldest of the Al Dalou couple's five children. His mother, Alaa, was 38.
Shaban was a prodigy from a young age; he has the honor of being a Hafith (a person who has memorized the entire Quran). He took care of his family because he was the oldest. He liked the guitar.
He scored 97% on his pre-university exam. He was studying computer engineering at Al Azhar University in Gaza and planned to start his own business.
During the genocide in Gaza, his family was displaced five times and ended up in Deir al Balad, in central Gaza. Shaban made videos and sought donations on GoFundMe so his family could leave for Egypt.
On October 6, 2024, during the Israeli bombing of the Shuhada al-Aqsa Mosque and the nearby school where they were sheltering, Shaban was wounded, and the family moved to the vicinity of Al-Aqsa Hospital, to a tent in the hospital courtyard.
On October 14, the hospital was attacked by Israeli occupation forces. The bombs set fire to several tents, including that of the Al Dalou family. The video of Shaban being burned alive with his hand raised and the intravenous catheter attached to his arm shocked the world. His mother, the person he loved most in the world, died at his side. Two of his brothers died days later from their burns.
