1.-Maryam Abu Daqqa was a 33-year-old Palestinian journalist from the Khan Yunis area in the southern Gaza Strip. During the genocide, she worked as a freelancer for several international media outlets, notably the Associated Press. Her Instagram account: @mariam_riyad_abu_dagga
2.- She was born in the agricultural town of Abasan, east of Khan Yunis. She studied journalism at Al-Aqsa University in Gaza City. She donated a kidney to her father.
3.- She became well-known in 2018 while reporting on the “Great March of Return” protests. The protesting Palestinians were shot at by Israeli soldiers from behind the barrier. Her brother was one of the 300 people killed.
4.- At the start of the genocide in 2023, she sent her only son, aged 12, to live with his father, who was working in the UAE. She decided to stay in Gaza and continue working as a journalist. Her home was bombed, and she lost her photography equipment. Her mother died of cancer due to a lack of medication, which devastated Mariam, though she continued to work nonetheless.
5.- On August 25, 2025, Mariam was in a store near Nasser Hospital, from where she and her fellow journalists were working because it had electricity and internet access. At 10 a.m., Israel bombed the hospital, wounding patients and medical staff.
6.- Seventeen minutes later, they bombed the area again—as they routinely do—primarily to kill the journalists and rescue teams rushing to the scene. They killed 22 people and wounded about 50; among those killed were Mariam and four fellow journalists. The entire incident was filmed live by Alghad TV.
